What Is Search Engine Optimisation?

So you’ve got yourself a great logo, a strong brand image and now a website, well done. Unfortunately the hard work doesn’t stop there, now comes the dark arts of getting your pages visible on Google and the other search engines.

If you are in the position of most new or small-medium sized business you’ll be wondering why on earth you aren’t getting people on your site. You search for your company name on Google and it’s right there but still, no new traffic. The problem you most likely have is that your site is not optimised for search engines.

When people are looking for your service or product, unless they specifically know you they probably aren’t searching for you brand name. They will be typing a phrase or word that relates to your offering, this is known as a keyword. In a basic sense if your site doesn’t utilise these words or phrases in specific ways then the search engine isn’t going to find you, and subsequently neither is your new customer.

But don’t fret, there’s plenty you can do, and the majority of it is on your website itself and is pretty straight forward. This SEO work doesn’t have to be complicated or massively expensive, but it does have to be done and has to be continually cared for.
